Troubleshooting a Secondary Contactor not Energizing

Overview

The primary contactor is engaging but the secondary contactor is not receiving 24V.

Procedure

Shock Hazard

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, disconnect power before installing or servicing equipment. Lowering the control board exposes the technician to 240 VAC electricity inside the fryer.

  1. Remove power from fryer.

  2. Remove the control panel.

  3. Disconnect the coil wires from secondary contactor.

  4. Enter Tech Mode.

  5. Navigate to T-16 Outputs and test for 24V to the mercury contactor.

  6. Check transformer output voltage.

  7. Check the safety circuits to ensure 24V passes through each of the safety circuits.

  8. Remove the control board.

  9. Remove a working control board from another OFE 32X fryer and connect to this fryer.

  10. If voltage is sent to the secondary contactor and the unit heats, the control panel is defective. Replace the control panel.

  11. If there is no voltage to the secondary contactor, the I/O board is defective. Replace the I/O board.
