Inspecting the Lid Handle Roller

Some locations may choose to do this procedure on a more frequent basis (i.e., quarterly, semi-annually, or other frequency).

Objects can fall and splash hot oil or hot water while performing this procedure. Cover the vat with a sheet pan or drain the vat and allow to cool otherwise serious burns may result.

  1. Open the lid.

  2. Cover the vat.

  3. Remove the mounting screw and mounting plate holding each roller onto the lid handle, then slide each roller off of its shaft.

  4. Clean each lid roller and each shaft with a mild detergent and water.

  5. Inspect the inside and outside of each roller for:

A deep groove is any groove where the depth of the groove is .010” or greater. If groove depth is less than what is shown, the roller may be re-used. If the groove depth is questionable, then either replace the roller, or use a micrometer to precisely measure the depth of the groove and determine if the roller needs to be replaced.

  6. Circle marks on the sides of the roller.

  7. If either roller is cracked, has flat spots, deep grooves or circle marks as shown, replace both rollers with kit number 140440; otherwise re-use the existing rollers.

  8. To install a new roller or an existing roller:

    1. Slide the roller on its roller shaft.

    2. Apply blue semi-permanent thread locker to the threads of the mounting screw.

    3. Securely fasten the mounting plate with its mounting screw.

Each roller should spin freely after installation.
