Network Connections
There are many types of network connections used throughout the world. It is possible customers may deploy unique Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN) solutions. The following information focuses on the Henny Penny network solution only.
Henny Penny Connection Solutions
A small device called a dongle is plugged into the back of the control panel. It looks like a USB stick and fits into the XXX port. The dongle has a label showing its MAC address. It acts as a WiFi radio, allowing the control panel to connect wirelessly to the operator’s WiFi network. To use it, you must enable the WiFi and set up the connection in the control's software settings. There are two connection types:
-
The radio can be connected to the operators, personal or franchise (i.e., McD) network, once the MAC address is added to the customer’s network configuration (e.g., IP whitelisting, ARP table, DNS server, etc.).
-
The radio can be connected to the Cloud directly and then the Henny Penny Data Center, using a Henny Penny Gateway (telco cell phone) router. Used when connections are not available or below the required signal thresh-hold.
Once connected to the operators network the data packets from the appliance transfer to the internet cloud and then to the Henny Penny Data Center.
Henny Penny Data Center
The Henny Penny Data Center monitors each connected appliance and gathers information to determine state of operational health, and then transmits that data to the operator's Henny Link Application (Dashboard).
Henny Link Dashboard
An application (dashboard) that can be downloaded to a mobile devise and is used to monitor individual appliance data to determine operational health.
Radio Hardware Setup
NOTE: These instructions are for the F5E / LVE 300 fryer's number one control (far left), that was not setup with a Beagle Bone network card from the factory.
-
Remove the top, center screw holding the control in place.
-
Lower the control so you can see the back panel.
- Remove and reseat the USB WiFi Dongle.

Unboxing and Preparation
-
Review items in kit. Included items:
-
IR302 Router
-
DIN rail clip or wall mount bracket
-
Power cable (9–36 V DC)
-
SIM card and tray tool
-
Ethernet cable
-
Install SIM card
NOTE: Be careful not to break the SIM chip.
-
Gently remove the SIM chip from the SIM card.
-
Use the SIM tool to remove the SIM tray.
-
Insert the SIM chip into the SIM tray.
-
Replace SIM tray into router.
Mounting Options
-
DIN-rail: Fit the clip onto the unit, then snap onto a standard DIN rail.
-
Wall-mount: Use the bracket for securing on flat surfaces.
Power and Grounding
-
Connect to a 9–36 V DC power source; typical current draw is ~0.1–0.2 A.
-
Ground the router per local regulations if required.
Ethernet Connections
The Beagle-Bone Dongle on back of the control auto-connects to the cellular gateway router once it's detected.
NOTE: Use the following information to diagnosis and troubleshoot the cellular gateway router connectivity.
Quick LED Operational Check (inhand IR302)
-
Power up the device. A lit/blinking SYS LED confirms system start.
-
Watch the SIM LED—a solid state means SIM is recognized.
-
CELL LED indicates cellular registration and data activity.
-
Check WAN if Ethernet is connected—solid for link, blinking for traffic.
-
If you have Wi‑Fi configured, WLAN indicates radio status and data transfer.
Understanding LED Indicators (inhand IR302)
The IR302’s status is displayed by LEDs on its top panel:
LED Indicator State
| LED | Color / Behavior | Description |
| SYS (System) | Green: Blinking steadily | System operational; steady green = normal. |
| SYS (System) | Off | System not powered or firmware issue. |
| WAN | Green: Solid | Ethernet WAN link active. |
| WAN | Blinking | Network traffic present. |
| WAN | Off | No Ethernet link (cable unplugged or down). |
| SIM | Green: Solid | SIM detected and registered on the cellular network. |
| SIM | Blinking | Searching or negotiating network. |
| SIM | Off | No SIM card or not recognized. |
| CELL (Cellular Link) | Green: Solid | Cellular connection established. |
| CELL (Cellular Link) | Blinking | Data activity on LTE/3G. |
| CELL (Cellular Link) | Off | No cellular service available. |
| WLAN | Blue/Green:Solid | Wi‑Fi radio is on. |
| WLAN | Blinking | Wi‑Fi traffic in progress. |
| WLAN | Off | Wi‑Fi disabled or unavailable. |
