Converting the HCW 3 to HCW 5

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

  1. Remove electrical power supplied to the cabinet.

  2. Remove both end panels.

  3. Remove four nuts holding top cap.

  4. Remove top cap.

  5. Set HCW 2 in place by using same stud holes which the top cap used.

  6. Install four nuts which held top cap to retain HCW 2.

  7. If your HCW 3 is a three phase unit, then connect the four wires from the HCW 2 as follows:

    1. Connect one wire coming from the HCW 2 infinite regulator to an empty terminal on the L3 quick-connect terminal block.

    2. Connect the other wire coming from the HCW 2 infinite regulator to an empty terminal on the L2 quick-connect terminal block.

    3. Connect the wire which comes from the fuse in the HCW 2 to the L2 screw-clamp terminal block. This should make a total of three wires in this block.

    4. By using a two-blade quick-connect adapter, connect the remaining wire to the neutral (N) quick-connect terminal block.

    5. Be sure to study enclosed marked field wiring diagram accompanying the HCW 2.

If your HCW 3 is a single phase unit, then connect the four wires from the HCW 2 as follows:

    1. By using a two-blade quick-connect adapter, connect one wire from the HCW 2 infinite regulator to the L1 quick-connect terminal block.

    2. Connect the other wire coming from the HCW 2 infinite regulator to the empty terminal on the L2 quick-connect terminal block.

    3. Connect the wire coming from the fuse in the HCW 2 to the L2 screw-clamp terminal block. This should make a total of 3 wires in this block.

    4. By using a two-blade quick-connect adaptor, connect the remaining wire to the neutral (N) quick-connect terminal block.

    5. Be sure to study enclosed marked field wiring diagram accompanying the HCW 2.

Your wiring now should match that of a standard HCW 5.

  8. Test out all systems.

  9. Replace the end panels.
