Overview
The E-46 error indicates a failure during the import or export of settings. The control is unable to successfully write data to memory. This may occur when importing customer settings or recipes through the USB interface.
Error Variations
E-46A – Write Memory Failure (Internal)

Commonly caused by a failed recipe import from a USB device.
E-46B – Write Memory Failure (External)

Commonly caused by a failed recipe export to a USB device.
Call Avoidance
Before scheduling a service visit, perform the following actions remotely or have the customer perform them:

Turn main power switch off to fryer for 30 seconds and power back on.

Attempt the import/export process again.
-
Verify the USB device is properly connected in the USB port under the control.
-
Verify files are correct on USB. If questionable, delete files and reload them.
-
If the error remains active after these steps, proceed with field troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting Steps

Power cycle fryer.
-
Cycle power to fryer using main power switch.
Keep power off for 30 seconds and then turn back on.

Allow the control to fully reboot.
-
Repeat the import/export operation.
-
Do one of the following:

If successful, return the unit to service.
-
If unsuccessful, go to Step 2.
-
Check USB connection.
-
Access the USB Port and connection on the back of the display control.
-
Inspect the USB connection for loose, damaged, or contaminated connections.
-
Verify the USB device is fully inserted into USB port.
-
Repeat the import/export operation.
-
Do one of the following:
-
If successful, return the unit to service.
-
If unsuccessful, go to Step 3.
-
Replace USB cable.
-
Disconnect the existing USB cable.
-
Install a known-good USB cable.
-
Repeat the import/export operation.
-
Do one of the following:
-
If successful, return the unit to service.
-
If unsuccessful, replace display control.
-
Other Possibilities
Corrupted Recipe or Settings File
A damaged recipe or settings file can cause E-46 A during import operations.
Action:
-
Obtain a known-good copy of the file.
-
Retry the import process.
Defective USB Device
A failing USB storage device may intermittently cause write failures.
Action:
-
Use a known-good USB device.
-
Retry the import/export operation.
Loose or contaminated USB connections may create intermittent E-46 A or E-46 B errors.
Action:
-
Inspect and clean connections.
-
Replace damaged cables.
-
Verify secure connections before replacing major components.
