Replacing the Oil Level Probes

The oil level probes monitor the oil level by temperature differences. If they becomes disabled, the display shows: “E-18A”= left probe; “E18-B”= right probe; “E18C”= both. Also, if any of the probes are out of calibration more than 10°F, or 10°C, the probe should be replaced. An Ohm check can be performed also.

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

1. Support control panel bottom with one hand, loosen retaining screw at panel top, let panel slide down slightly to clear screw, push panel back up, then swing panel top out and down.

   

2. Pull probe connector from the control panel and locate the terminals in connector for probe being tested. Attach meter leads onto those terminals and refer to chart to determine if probe is good or not. (Probe wires are labeled, with #1 being the far left probe.)

Replacing

1. Reattach control panel to unit and restore power to the unit.

2. Drain the oil from the vat :

   1. Press and hold a Filter button until *FILTER* *MENU* displays.

   2. Then, once “1.AUTO FILTER” displays, press the Down arrow button three times until “4. DRAIN TO PAN” displays.

   3. Press √ button and “DRAIN TO PAN” “YES NO” displays.

   4. Press √ button again display shows “DRAINING”, and oil drains from vat.

   5. Once oil has drained, display shows “VAT EMTY” “YES NO”. Visually check that vat is empty and press √ button, display shows “DRAIN CLOSING...” and drain closes.

3. Using a 1/2 inch wrench, remove nut on compression fitting, and remove the temperature probe from the vat.

   

4. Using a terminal extractor, remove probe terminals from the connector and pull remove probe from unit.

5. Place the nut and new ferrule on new temperature probe and insert temperature probe into the compression fitting.

6. Locate temperature probe through vat wall.

   

7. Place gauge against vat wall as shown.

8. Push temperature probe through until it makes contact with gauge.

Excess force will damage the temperature probe.

9. Tighten temperature probe in place.

10. Connect new temperature probe to connector and fasten connector onto control panel.

11. Replace control panel and reconnect power to vat.

12. Fill the vat:

    1. Press and hold a Filter button until *FILTER* *MENU* displays.

    2. Then, once “1.AUTO FILTER” displays, press the Down arrow button four times until “5.FILL POT FROM DRN PAN” displays.

    3. Press √ button; “FILL POT FROM DRN PAN” “YES NO” displays.

    4. Press √ button again, display shows “FILLING” “STOP?”and oil fills vat.

    5. Press √ button again, display shows “FILL POT FROM DRN PAN” “YES NO”. When vat is full, press X twice to return to normal operation.
