Replacing the Temperature Probe

The temperature probe relays the actual oil temperature to the control. If it becomes disabled, “E-6A or B” displays.

The oil level probes monitor the oil level by temperature differences. If they becomes disabled, the display shows: “E-18A”= left probe; “E18-B”= right probe; “E18C”= both. Also, if any of the probes are out of calibration more than 5°F, or 5°C, the probe should be replaced.

An Ohm check can be performed also.

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

  1. Support control panel bottom with one hand, loosen retaining screw at panel top, slide panel down slightly to clear screw, push panel bottom up, then swing panel top out and down.

  2. Referring to the decal on the rear of the control panel, locate the 12-pin probe connector in the upper, right-hand corner. (An ohm chart is also shown on the decal.)

    Temperature Probe Ohm Check

  3. Pull the connector from the panel and using a multimeter, take an ohm reading on the appropriate oil temp pins. If ohm reading is significantly different than the chart, continue with replacement instructions.

Replacing

  1. Drain oil from the vat:

    1. Press and hold Filter button until *FILTER* *MENU* displays.

    2. Then once “1.AUTO FILTER” displays, press three times until “4. DRAIN TO PAN” displays.

    3. Press √ button and “DRAIN TO PAN” “YES NO” displays.

    4. Press √ button again display shows “DRAINING”, and oil drains from vat. Once oil has drained, display shows “VAT EMTY” “YES NO”.

    5. Visually check that vat is empty and press √ button, display shows “DRAIN CLOSING...” and drain closes.

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

  2. Using a 3/8 inch socket, remove two screws securing the burner jet bracket and remove bracket.

  3. Pull both burner jets from unit.

  4. Using a 1/2 inch wrench, remove nut on compression fitting, and remove the temperature probe from the vat.

  5. Using terminal extractor, remove probe terminals from connector and remove probe from unit.

  6. Place nut and new ferrule on the new temperature probe and insert temperature probe into the compression fitting.

  7. Place gauge against vat wall as shown.

  8. Push temperature probe through until it makes contact with gauge.
