Backdoor Password for C8000
The C8000 controller has programmable passwords for access to programming modes and tech modes and resetting the Review Usage data. If the passwords are changed by the user and then forgotten, there is a secret, "backdoor", access method. This allows the passwords to be reset to known values. The backdoor procedure should only be done by a technician as it requires unscrewing and lowering the control panel.
The user can reprogram the MGR and USAGE passwords on steps SP-15 and SP-16 in Special Program mode. The MGR password is used to access all programming modes except Tech and Stats modes. The USAGE password is only used to reset the Review Usage data - it does not grant access to any programming features. The default values for the MGR and USAGE passwords are 1-2-3.
The TECH mode password can be reprogrammed on step T-15 in Tech Mode. The TECH password grants access to Tech and Stats modes. The default value for the TECH password is 1-1-2-2-1-1-2-2.
Backdoor Access Policy
Do not reveal this information directly to store personnel unless a store is so remote that a visit from a technician would be expensive or result in an unacceptable delay. It is best to require a service call to "unlock" a controller when the user has changed the password and lost it.
This policy serves three purposes:
-
limiting the number of people given the unlock procedure
-
encouraging store managers to keep better track of their passwords (to avoid another service call).
-
protecting the user from electrical hazard associated with the procedure.
To avoid electrical shock or property damage, disconnect power before installing or servicing equipment. A qualified technician must perform the service procedures. |
Resetting a Forgotten MGR Password
-
Turn the C8000 controller OFF and remove the screws holding the controller.
-
Unplug the temperature probe. The probe has two "cloth" braided wires going to a two-pin connector at about the center of the C8000 back cover.
-
Set the controller back up and access Special Program mode by pressing and holding the PROG button until "L-2 LEVEL 2" shows on the display. Release the PROG button.
-
The display shows "SP PROG", "ENTER CODE". Enter the backdoor code 5-5-5-1-2-1-2.
-
Press and release the PROG button repeatedly to step ahead to step SP-15.
-
The display shows: "SP-15" "CHANGE MGR CODE?" "1 = YES". Press the #1 button to begin the change procedure.

If the same code sequence was entered both times, the display shows "*CODE CHANGED*". At this point, the newly entered code is activated. Otherwise, the display shows "DID NOT MATCH", "NOT CHANGED". In this case, repeat the procedure starting at step #6 above.
