Troubleshooting the E-216 Shelf temp too low

Overview

If one of the shelves (heaters) drops in temperature by more than 11° Fahrenheit (6° Celsius) below the Set Point temperature, for longer than 15 minutes, the E-216 error displays. This applies only to a shelf that is on and actively trying to heat to set point temperature.

Note: A shelf entering Eco Mode or manually turned off will not generate the code.

Call Avoidance

Perform this step first to avoid travel to the restaurant, reducing cost and adding value for your customer. Turn the main power switch off for a few moments, and then turn it back on. Wait. If the issue doesn't resolve itself, continue the troubleshooting steps below on-site.

Field Troubleshooting

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, disconnect power before installing or servicing equipment. A qualified technician must perform the service procedures.

  1. To check shelf row temperatures to find out which shelf is not heating from the home screen tap GO, and tap the thermometer icon. Note which heater(s) are not maintaining set point temperature.

  2. Remove power from unit by unplugging the main power cord.

  3. Remove the top cover of the unit to gain access to the electrical components.

  4. Remove the left side panel (when facing the front) to gain access to heater probe wiring.

  5. Behind the left side panel, check the suspected heater and probe connections for the heaters at the 2 pin connectors and the main connector at the I/O board.

  6. Unplug and plug back in connectors to heaters and to the temperature probe for the heater not maintaining temperature to clean contacts.

  7. Reconnect power and turn on the main power switch.

  8. If issue is not resolved, use a multimeter to check if line voltage is present to the heater. If it is, then check the resistance of the heater in question and determine if it is an open circuit or shorted issue.

  9. Do one of the following:

    1. If the shelf heater wiring is damaged or not making a good connection to the I/O board, replace the wiring.

    2. If the shelf heater is faulty, replace the heater assembly.
