Troubleshooting the E-220A I/O board loss of network connectivity

Overview

E-220 error code occurs when the I/O board loses contact through the CAN-bus with both of the control boards (front and rear) for 180 seconds.

NOTICE - Quickly turning the unit off and back on can cause this issue.

Note: The UHC 600 disables all heaters when an E-220 error occurs, but continues to allow control access for troubleshooting.

Call Avoidance

Perform this step first to avoid travel to the restaurant, reducing cost and adding value for your customer. Turn the main power switch off for a few moments, and then turn it back on. Wait. If the issue doesn't resolve itself, continue the troubleshooting steps below on-site.

Field Troubleshooting

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, disconnect power before installing or servicing equipment. A qualified technician must perform the service procedures.

  1. Turn the power switch off for 30 seconds and then turn the power switch back on.

  2. Unplug main power to unit and turn main power switch to off position.

  3. Remove the top cover of the unit to gain access to the electrical components.

  4. Ensure cable connections are clean and making a secure connection. If yes, and E-220A error persists, proceed to step 5.

  5. Remove and test the CAN-bus cable from each control. Replace the cable if it does not show continuity on all wires or is incorrectly wired.

  6. If cables test good, and are connected securely, replace the I/O board.
