Replacing the Flange Mount Filter Pump and Motor

Included on units manufactured before September 2018.

The two most common causes for a fryer not to pump oil are that the pump is clogged, or the thermal overload switch has been tripped on the motor. The pump and motor assembly is located on the rear of the fryer.

Removing Debris from Pump

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

  1. Loosen the four Allen head screws on the end of pump and remove the cover. (Removing the bottom rear panel may help in accessing the set screws.)

  2. The inside is now exposed leaving a rotor and five Teflon rollers. Clean the rotor and rollers.

    NOTICE -

For proper operation, align the indicators on each half of the pump.

  3. To reassemble, place rotor on drive shaft, and place roller into rotor.

NOTE: A small amount of grease might be needed to hold the bottom roller into place until cover plate is put on. Make sure O-ring is in proper position on plate.

Resetting Thermal Overload Switch

  1. Locate the pump and motor in the rear of the fryer and if the motor is hot, allow it to cool for about 5 minutes.

  2. Since it takes some effort to reset the switch, use a tool, such as a crosshead screwdriver, to press against the reset button until a “click” is heard.

Removing the Motor

  1. Remove JIB from fryer. See Replacing the JIB Pump.

  2. Remove the rear panel and the right side panel.

  3. Using a 1 inch wrench, loosen the rear pump fitting.

  4. Using crosshead screwdriver, remove the rear cover from motor, exposing the wires.

  5. Loosen the conduit clamp and pull the wires through the conduit clamp.

  6. Pull pump and motor out from front of fryer across the JIB shelf.

Removing the Pump

  1. Using a 1/2 inch wrench, remove the two bolts securing the pump to the motor and pull the pump from the motor.

  2. Install a new seal kit (part no. 17476) onto shaft of motor.

  3. Align the shaft of the motor with the rotor on the inside of the pump and push pump onto shaft of motor.

  4. Secure the pump onto the motor with the two bolts.
