Replacing the Gas Valve Solenoid Coil

Prior to replacing the solenoid coil, perform the gas valve troubleshooting. If the issue persists, then perform the following troubleshooting:

  • Ensure vent hole on pressure regulation stem on gas valve is clear.

  • Ensure voltage to the coil is 24VAC and valve remains closed.

  • Disconnect coil wires and then test voltage is 24VAC.

If voltage does not read 24VAC after performing all steps listed above, replace the coil.

Replacing

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

  1. Remove electrical power and gas supply to unit.

  2. Use a crosshead screwdriver to remove the two screws in the control board.

  3. Lower the control board and disconnect transformer harness.

  4. If present, remove the inner heat shield.

  5. Using a flat blade screwdriver, remove e-clip from solenoid coil.

  6. Remove solenoid coil from gas valve.

  7. Place new solenoid coil on gas valve stem.

  8. Align e-clip on solenoid coil and apply pressure to snap into place.

NOTE: You may need to apply pressure with a tool such as a flat blade screwdriver.
