Replacing the Selector Valve Motor Encoder

multimeter
1/8 inch screwdriver
torque wrench
blue Loctite
Estimated Time
90 minutes
Fryers with serial numbers after NE1707001 will have selector valve for each vat plumbed into the oil return lines.
The selector valve applies to all Del Taco fryers.
As of right now there are no retrofit kits to replace solenoid valves with the selector valve due to replacement runs around $3,000 and takes about 3-4 hour service time with 2 technicians.
Selector valve uses SAE Fittings.

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power. |
-
Remove right side panel.
-
Disconnect both the selector valve 24VDC motor connection and the AIF communication harness at the AIF board.
Ohm reading from the Encoder motor power cable (black / red harness) should read anywhere from 3-7 ohms. If 0-2.9ohms, replace motor encoder only. A new Encoder motor may read higher ohms until the filtering has been run several times.
6 pin connector should show 24v dc out. If voltage drops while trying to test valve, the valve body may have a jam and can’t turn.
Encoder motor comes with encoder harness and power harness built in.
-
Remove 3 button head cap screws (1) .
-
Separate old motor encoder assembly (2) from selector valve (3).
Motor encoder hosing pops straight up and off.
-
Connect both harnesses from new motor encoder assembly to AIF board.
-
Power up fryer to let valve find home position. Selector valve calibration occurs automatically upon power up.
-
Turn selector valve so that new motor encoder spool alignment indicators center over port 10.
SHOCK HAZARD
Manually rotating the motor encoder assembly may cause damage to the motor. If manual rotation is required for proper alignment, only manually rotate selector valve.
-
Align spool coupler (4), valve, and motor encoder assembly, and then seat motor encoder assembly on valve.
-
Apply blue Loctite and replace 3 button head cap screws. Torque to 34in/lbs.
-
Connect AIF communication wire harnesses to AIF board.
-
Test selector valve by running calibration. Enter INFO Mode and refer to Pumps and Valves for calibration instructions. Successful calibration is 2.00R 10P E/R2000 +/- S
-
Install right side panel.
