Troubleshooting the E-60 AIF Communication Failure

Overview

An E-60 error describes a lack of communication between the front control panels and the AIF board.

Does the error occur on one control panel or all control panels?

If the error only occurs on one panel, the fault likely is with the control panel or AIF harness connection on the back of the control.

The color of the harness wiring will change based upon vat position.

Procedure

  1. Switch the control displaying the error to a different vat.

  2. If the problem is resolved, the issue was a loose AIF harness connection.

  3. If the error occurs on all vats, the issue is likely the AIF board.

    1. Verify proper incoming voltage to the AIF board on the P12 connection. A loss of voltage on this connection is most likely a fuse blowing due to a faulty JIB pump or a blockage in one of the drain valves.

    2. Verify voltage out to the AIF transformer on the P11 connector, pins 4 and 5.

    3. Verify transformer is returning reduced voltage back to the AIF board on the P11 connector pins 1 and 2. It should read 18-20 volts.

  4. If all of these things test good and there are still no lights illuminating on the AIF, then disconnect all other connectors and test.

  5. If the lights come on, then, one at a time, begin connecting the other connection points.

  6. When the lights go out after you make a connection, that indicates a short in that specific circuit.

A common cause for this problem is melted transducer wires. Transducer wires get melted when a cracked vat causes an obstruction in the flue and flame rollout occurs.

  7. If the vat is cracked, it may be replaced if under 10 year warranty, appropriate information is provided, and manufacturer's conditions are met.
