Troubleshooting the E1 Low Oil Error Code

Overview

The E1 Low Oil error is triggered when the heat is on, but the oil level is too low for proper operation. This means the oil may not be covering the top heating element or is below the main temperature probe. NOTE: If the oil level is low, but the main temperature probe is covered, the E1 error will not trigger. The E-1 error triggers when there is a great enough temperature delta between the main temperature probe and the protection probe.

Call Avoidance

To help the end user resolve the issue without a service call, verify oil level. Ensure the oil is filled up to the top-level line if the oil is hot. If the fryer has been sitting idle and has cooled to room temperature, fill the oil to the lower-level line and verify the oil is covering the main temperature probe.

Field Troubleshooting

If call avoidance steps do not resolve the issue, proceed with the following field troubleshooting steps:

Recommended Parts:

  • Main temperature probe

  • Protection probe

Recommended Tools:

  • Basic hand tools

  • Small flat tip screwdriver

  • 3/8 in. socket or wrench

  • 1/2 in. wrench

Troubleshooting the Probes

Inspect and Replace Probes: Check the main temperature probe and protection probe. Typically probe issues will display as an E-6 or E-19. Those errors along with the E-1 may all display in the error log. Troubleshoot probes following E-6 troubleshooting steps. Replace faulty probe(s).
