Converting the HMR from Full to Self Service

The HMR can be converted in the field but it may not work fully as designed. Henny Penny does not recommend or guarantee this conversion.

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

Remove the crosshead screws securing the bottom, rear cover and let hinge down.
Using 5/16” socket, remove nuts securing the fan.
Cut the cooling fan wires and remove the cooling fan from the unit.
Fully remove or cap off each wire to fan.
Replace the opening left by fan needs to be filled with a new top cover and blank panel.
Mount the probe that was installed in one of the fan assemblies in new location.
Install the plate for the probe in the space with the fan it was previously installed.
Disconnect the water heater. It can be left in place.
Remove or cap the wires.
Replace the canopy glass with the appropriate self-service style glass.
Install appropriate gas rams to match the new style glass.
