Troubleshooting the Check JIB Message

Ensure you have these parts with you when troubleshooting to ensure a first-time fix. Parts are listed from most common fix to least common fix.
ATO pump motor (JIB pump motor)
JIB pick up tube
Pick-up tube fittings
Check valve
Braided flex line
OMS board
Overview
The auto top off system has attempted to fill the vat 8 times without success. The CHECK JIB message appears when JIB is full.
Troubleshooting by Phone
Perform these steps first to avoid having to go to the restaurant and adding value for your customer.
For LVE 30X units with a hood interlock plug only, ensure that the primary plug is pushed in all the way and the breaker is not tripped. The primary plug is behind vat #1 on LVE 302 and LVE 303 units and behind vat #2 on LVE 304 units.
Find out if this issue is happening on one vat, or all the vats. If this only happens on one vat, skip to First Time Fix Parts. If this happens on all vats, continue with next step.
Instruct the customer to remove the pick-up tube from the JIB, inspect the end and remove any obstruction from the oil intake openings.
Ensure JIB is full and pick-up tube is fully inserted to the bottom of the JIB.
Test the system by attempting to fill a vat with no cook cycle running from the JIB. To do this:
Tap the menu icon in the lower left corner of the display to open the settings menu.
Tap Oil & Filter.
Tap Fill Vat.
Tap JIB.
Tap and hold FILL for several seconds to fill the vat from the JIB.
If oil pumped from the JIB to the vat, the issue is corrected and no field service is needed. If not, ensure you have the first time first parts available to you and continue with the Troubleshooting in the Field section at the restaurant.
Troubleshooting in the Field
Perform the steps from the section Troubleshooting by Phone.
Ensure the JIB pump motor matches the voltage of the unit.
Energize the JIB pump motor by following the steps from step 5 from the Troubleshooting by Phone section. Perform one of the following:
If air bubbles are visible in the vat while pumping, replace the leaking JIB pick-up tube, cracked inlet fittings, or replace the JIB pump motor if the pump housing is cracked.
If no bubbles are present while pumping, continue with step 3.
Place your fingers on the motor while holding down the Fill button. Perform one of the following:
If the motor is vibrating/ running, locate and remove the suction side obstruction by:
Removing and cleaning the orifice at the end of the pick-up tube.
Removing the pick-up tube from the inlet of the JIB pump motor by pulling the blue quick release tab out.
Removing any obstruction found in the inlet of the JIB pump motor and thoroughly clean the inlet fittings and entire pick-up tube.
Re-installing the tube and testing. If the issue continues, proceed to step 4.
If there is no vibration from the motor when holding the Fill button, continue with step 5.
Check for obstructions in the flex line and check valve by:
Removing the braided flex line (1) from the outlet of the JIB pump and from the check valve (2) at the selector valve connection.
Removing any obstructions found and ensuring the check valve is installed in the correct direction, and free moving.
Replacing the check valve if it no longer operates properly.
At the OMS board, test for AC voltage at connector P9. Perform one of the following:
If line voltage is present while holding the Fill button, continue with next step.
If no voltage, turn the unit off for 15 seconds and then back on again and test. If still no voltage, replace the OMS board.
Check the wires between the OMS board and the JIB pump motor for any damage or for short to ground. Replace any damaged wire. If no damage is found to wires, replace the JIB pump motor.
