Troubleshooting a Change Pad Reminder XX hrs. Error

Drain Pan Proximity Switch
Magnet Assembly
![]() |
To avoid electrical shock or property damage, disconnect power before installing or servicing equipment. A qualified technician must perform the service procedures. |
Overview
The drain pan switch is a magnetic proximity switch monitored by a 12 VDC circuit from the OMS board. With the drain pan fully inserted the no proximity switch is now closed and allows the 12 VDC to go back to the OMS board on pins D1 and D2 of the P8 connector. Usually with this error, the control has not seen the drain pan switch break contact (open) for at least 60 seconds within 25 hrs. (default), since that is how often the filter pad should be changed.
Call Avoidance
Perform these steps first to avoid having to go to the restaurant and adding value for your customer. These are steps we recommend every service company provide prior to going out and what makes Henny Penny the partner top food service chains can’t live without as these will save our customers money if successful. These steps can be provided over the phone, over WhatsApp, face time etc… with the restaurant manager. Try the following steps first:
-
For a change pad reminder xx hours- ensure the caller has recently done a daily filter after removing the drain pan and replacing the filter pad as well as cleaning all drain pan parts.
-
Make sure this is not a 24 hr. store and the change pad reminder has been set to 13 hrs. If it is a 24 hr. store than the change pad reminder alert is usually set to 13 hrs. for the pad to be changed twice a day. If the store is not a 24 hr. store and the reminder has been set to 13 hrs, this could be the problem.
Navigate to the Main Menu > Advanced, and then enter code 1122.
Select Alert Management, and then select Filter Pad Alert, and then change the hour count to the appropriate number (usually 25 hrs.).
-
Have the caller make sure the magnet is still in place on the back of the drain pan with its mounting nuts.
Field Troubleshooting
-
Make sure the magnet is not engaging with the switch when the drain pan is pulled out.
-
With the drain pan pulled out from the fryer, go to the rear of the fryer to check the drain pan switch.
-
Remove the 2 wires from the lever nuts and check continuity between wires going to the switch.
-
Test should show an open circuit, and not having continuity.
-
If test shows continuity with drain pan and magnet removed, replace faulty switch.
- If the switch checks open, put the wires back in the lever nuts, and check the P8 connector on the OMS board.
- Power down the fryer before removing panels to gain access to the OMS board.
- Remove the P8 connector from the OMS board and check continuity on the plug going to the pan switch.
- With the pan out from under the fryer, the circuit should be open and not have continuity.
- If continuity is present, replace the wiring harness to the lever nuts.
- If continuity is not present, but still receiving the error, replace the OMS board.
