Lid Latch Replacement

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

Only perform this procedure when the unit is cool or severe burns may result.

This procedure should only be performed by an experienced welder. Otherwise, injury or property damage may occur

Procedure

To replace a broken lid latch on Velocity fryers

1. Disconnect power from fryer.

2. Use an angle grinder to grind off the remains of the existing catch clip.

3. Use a degreasing agent to clean the front of the vat band.

4. Use a marker to mark the horizontal location of the new catch clip. Clip should be centered with 6.945 +/- 0.060 in. on either side.

5. Use a marker to mark the vertical location of the new catch clip. Bottom of the clip should be 1.345 +/- 0.020 inches from top of countertop.

6. Use gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and a 316L filler to attch the new clip.

7. Use a wire brush to remove heat discoloration.

8. Use an adjustable wrench to adjust lid latch.

9. Gently flex the latch in or out as required.

10. Use an adjustable wrench to adjust the lid catch.

11. Gently flex the catch in or out as required.

12. Open and close the lid while inspecting the lid latch and catch for engagement.

The lid latch to catch engagement should be smooth and not clunky. The lid latch should gently but firmly slide over the catch and engage without excessive play. If the lid must be slammed to lock, the engagement is too tight. If clip is not adjusted properly, damage to the clip may occur.
