Lid Latch Adjustment or Replacement

Kit number

Estimated Time

30 Minutes

The Velocity lid latch must be inspected and, if necessary, adjusted annually. Over time, the lid latch and bracket may require adjustment. If not adjusted, the latch welded to the pot band can break and require replacement and adjustment.

To avoid electrical shock or property damage, move the power switch to OFF and disconnect power.

Only perform this procedure when the unit is cool or severe burns may result.

  1. Using an angle grinder, grind off the remains of the existing bracket.

  2. Using a degreasing agent, clean the front of the pot band.

  3. Using a marker, mark the horizontal location of the new bracket. Bracket should be centered with 6.945 in (176.4 mm) +/- 0.060 in (1.5 mm) on either side.

  4. Use Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and AWS: ER316L (ISO 14343-A: 19 12 3 L, DIN: 1.4430) stainless steel filler wire to attach the new latch bracket.

  5. Use a wire brush to remove heat discoloration.

  6. Using an adjustable wrench, adjust the lid latch. Gently flex the latch in or out as required.

  7. Using an adjustable wrench, adjust the lid bracket. Gently flex the bracket up or down as required.

  8. Open and close the lid while inspecting the lid latch and bracket for engagement.

  9. The lid latch to bracket engagement should be smooth and not clunky. The lid latch should gently but firmly slide over the bracket and engage without excessive play. If the lid must be slammed to lock, the engagement is too tight. If bracket is not adjusted properly, damage to the bracket may occur.
