TO AVOID INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR EXPLOSION, BEFORE REPLACING STARTING THIS PROCEDURE, DO THE FOLLOWING:

The Lid Counterweight in the back of the fryer balances the weight of the lid system to allow easier opening and closing of the lid. The weight has two cables attached to it and weighs approximately 150 lbs. (67.5 Kg).

Disconnect power from unit.

Turn off main gas supply.

Use a crosstip head screwdriver to remove the screws to back and top shrouds.

Remove the shrouds.
-
Raise the lid. Cover the vat after raising the lid will protect fryer from foreign debris and/or oil from contaminants.

Cover the vat with a sheet pan.
-
Remove steam box.
-
Remove the nipples from the dead weight that is attached to the front shroud.
-
Remove nipples from the solenoid that is attached to the front shroud.
-
Remove the bolts securing the lid stop bracket.
-
Remove bracket from shroud.
-
Remove the screws securing the shroud to frame.
-
Remove the shroud.
-
Remove the nut from the nylatron slide and flip loosened end up over the lid.
-
Remove the 4 nuts from the bracket at top of the shroud.
-
Place support under lid arm (ex: block of wood).
-
Remove the weights from the frame in the back of the fryer.
-
Remove the Allen head bolts securing the stabilizer bracket
-
Remove the bracket.
-
Remove the bolts and spacers securing the pulley bracket.
-
Pull bracket back to allow access to cable bracket.
-
Pull cable and bracket from unit and remove cable from bracket.
-
Remove cable from weight frame.
-
Thread new cable through pulley.
-
Thread nut on cable and place cable through weight frame.
-
Thread second nut onto end of cable, but do not tighten.
-
Thread nut on other end of cable and place through the bracket.
-
Thread a second nut on the end of the cable.
-
Tighten the nut to the bracket.
-
Use the hole in bracket (when bracket is mounted) that is towards the front of the fryer.

Tighten cable onto weight frame.
-
Add plugs to rear holes.
-
Reassemble. Ensure to use pipe sealant on the pipe fittings.

After replacing both cables, locate the white label from kit and use a permanent marker or pen. Write the cable replacement month and year on the white label.

Place label on the front of the fryer.
-
Place clear label over top of the label in order to prevent ink from being wiped around during future cleanings.
